'Behind the Scenes - Performing Arts and the NT'

This year the Northern Territory Library is excited to partner with Darwin Festival to present Behind the Scenes: Performing Arts and the NT, part of the Festival's energetic, engaging and entertaining 2018 program.

In keeping with the performing arts theme our curatorial team have put together these special talks focussing on how the performing arts sector has evolved in the Northern Territory.

The Territory has produced some legendary musicians such Dr. G, Sunrize Band, Yothu Yindi and Jessica Mauboy. The Grey Panthers are the longest-running performing dance group for people over 60 in Australia. Award-winning playwrights and productions from our backyard have received Australia’s highest accolades.

Offering four sessions across the Festival, participants are invited to don the white gloves and turn the pages of performing arts history. Our curators will share some rare treasures from the collection and share the back story and significance of these items.

These curator talks will draw on the stories shared within Check it out! which is part of the soon to be opened A Territory Story exhibition.

A Territory Story is a new exhibition surveying the people, places and events that shaped the Territory. This exhibition will be on display during Library hours from late July.

The Festival curator talks are taking place at 4pm on Wednesday 15 & 22 and Saturday 18 & 25 August. Bookings via Darwin Festival or call 8943 4222.
