Congratulations to the 2023 Chief Minister’s Northern Territory History Book winner: Shannyn Palmer for her publication Unmaking Angas Downs: Myth and History on a Central Australian Pastoral Station.

Unmaking Angas Downs is a new work of history that seeks to unmake mythologies of pioneers, pastoralism and possession in the Northern Territory.  The book traces a history of colonisation in Central Australia by tracking the rise and demise of a rural enterprise across half a century.

Congratulations also to Dean Ashenden whose work Telling Tennant's Story: The Strange Career of the Great Australian Silence was highly commended. Telling Tennant's Story weaves together a combination of memoir, reportage and political history to tell a profoundly compelling narrative that asks to properly address the past, so we can come together as a nation.

Thank you to all of this year’s authors, and to all those who attended the awards ceremony either in person or via our livestream.
