COVID 19 update: Library & Archives NT Re-opening Dates

We have missed all of our visitors to the NT Library, NT Archives Centre and Alice Springs Reading Room during the last few weeks of COVID-19 closures: though it has been very much business as usual through our online channels as we continue to make collections and services available.

During this period of closure we have taken the opportunity to do some works in our buildings that will enable us to provide better services in the future and to ensure that our collections are located in the most suitable conditions.

It is wonderful news that libraries and archives will soon be able to open again under the NT Government’s Roadmap to the New Normal. We will be taking a staged approach to this as we complete the works currently in progress, with re-opening dates for our facilities as follows:

  • NT Archives Centre: Tuesday 26 May
  • Alice Springs Reading Room: Monday 1 June
  • NT Library: date TBC but likely start of July

All sites will of course open with physical distancing measures in place. This means capacity will be reduced, particularly at the NT Archives Centre and Alice Springs Reading Room. We recommend that if you intend to visit to use collections at these sites, you book ahead (8999 6890 or email We will do our best to make NT Library collections available for use at the NT Archives Centre on request until the Library re-opens.

When we re-open we will not be re-commencing our events program immediately, but hope to find ways to do so in the coming months.

We look forward to seeing you again in the near future, but in the meantime you can continue to find us online at
